Crafty Recipe: Goop

Published by sirenavs at 11:38 am under Crafty Recipes

GoopI am a huge fan of goop, not only is it a great experience for children to play in but it also feels great to just let your hands sink into it.  Goop has the wonderful properties where it will run when there is no resistance but add that resistance and it goes hard and chalky. If you scoop some up in your hand, it can be rolled into a ball (although not a perfect ball) but as soon as you stop rolling, it will slide through your fingers.

Putting out goop with some cars, utensils, plastic animals or anything else is a great activity to do whether you are at home or in a classroom.  It helps teach cause and effect and is just a wonderful texture to play in.

To make goop, you will need:

  • 1 cup of cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup of water
  • food coloring of choice
  • baking sheet (one with sides)

Teacher’s Hint: If you would like the goop to have a scent, just use kool-aid as the food coloring.

What you need to do:

  1. Place the cornstarch into the baking sheet
  2. Add food coloring to water.  (You can add it to the cornstarch but I find using colored water makes it much easier to mix the color.)
  3. Add some toys or other items to manipulate the goop
  4. Sit down and play with your child as they explore the goop.

Hope you enjoy this recipe.
